“friendly reminder” posts annoy me, but here’s one anyway:

The word “problematic” was never meant to be the auto-win card of social justice discussions. Problematic is not a synonym for bad or wrong. Problematic literally means that an issue is complicated, open to debate, and raises important questions about an issue, questions that should be analyzed, discussed, and unpacked.

So when you say something is problematic, don’t just lean back in your chair, pat yourself on the back, and call it a day. Go deeper. Get a discussion going. Analyze that shit. Hear from others and come to some tough conclusions.

Saying “we shouldn’t do X because X is problematic” is as nonsensical as saying “the weather outside is weather.”

5000 Design elements for… 100% off? That can’t be right.

clientsfromhell:

This week’s deal is an insane amount of useful resources for an unbelievable price.

> Over 5000 fonts, elements, textures, illustrations and more.

Even the most iconic designers don’t make everything from scratch every time they create and sell a design; why would they? Predesigned elements are able to enrich YOUR designs without taking over. Sometimes, all you need is a watercolor texture or a seamless geometric pattern to elevate your work to the next level, and this bundle gives you so many options for making your work better. So many possibilities

This is a HUGE bundle with incredible savings. At only $14, technically this is 100% off the full retail price of all the elements within (with rounding). It’s not often you find savings this extreme on elements this useful!

Client: I just spent hours searching royalty-free
images
for the brochure and website but there is just way too many and I don’t
have the time – can you look for me?

Me: Sure – we can do the search. Our rate $X per
hour.

Client: No, no, no – it’s not part of the job. I
want you to find the images for me to choose from before you start on the
brochure and website.

Me: Searching for images requires using my
studio’s resources which is $X per hour.

Client: Could you do it after work?

Me: Then it’s 2 x $X per hour.

Client: You are being ridiculous.
