Context: My character is an Ice Dragonborn Barbarian named Alket, and the other player is a Tiefling Druid named Haze. We had just landed in a dingy port town called Seraph. Alket has the unarmored defense perk, and Haze has really good perception and charisma. After wandering around in the fog, we get hassled by a group of four street kids.
Alket: Hey, we don’t have anything for you, so beat it.
DM: The kid punches you. Wait, what’s you AC?
Alket:(ooc) 13.
DM. Oh. (rolls damage) The kid breaks his hand. They try to run away, but they turn around and come back.
Haze:(ooc) Can I see what they’re running from?
DM: There’s a stranger walking out of the fog. He seems angry and the kids are clearly afraid of him.
Haze: I’m going to talk to him.
Alket: I’ll keep the kids from running anywhere else.
Stranger: What do you want from me, Tiefling?
Haze: (ooc) I’m going to convince him to leave the kids alone.
DM: Roll charisma.
She rolled a crit 20.
DM: Damnit, now I need to make character sheets for the kids.
Alket:(ooc) Why?
DM: That man was their legal guardian. You just adopted them.
Haze: What?
Those kids ended up following us into a bandit camp.
